Written for the College of the Sequoias Concert Choir, directed by John Sorber. World premiere by the College of the Sequoias Concert Choir and John Sorber on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
Featuring the poetry of German poet Jakob van Hoddis as well as the children’s song “Der Mond ist aufgegangen” by Matthias Claudius, the setting draws on the innocence of the latter to paint the calm night. People slept peacefully, not aware of the calamity to come. Suddenly, the winds howl and the waters roar, drowning the world in catastrophe.
